I was very saddened to hear that Billy passed away this week. I often think back, very fondly, of the times we spent together as kids; I always looked forward to our visits. I remember Billy for his great smile and laugh, his wit, and energy. This has been a very hard year for you so know that Chris and I are thinking of you and remembering Billy with great fondness. Our sincerest condolences.

May 7, 2022 at 9:13 amVery saddened to hear my old friend Bill (known as Junior), has left us for Heaven’s Pipes & Drums. His skill on the great highland bagpipe was well known, and it really was his life’s love. My memories go back 3 decades as a friend, from the the early trips to Cleveland, but especially the late 90’s after I also took up the pipes, many times playing with him as a duo in harmony at golf tournaments and such. Having served with Junior in the Ottawa Police and RCMP Pipe Bands for many years, I know how proud he was to wear both uniforms and represent the Force on community and charitable parades, as well as for police funerals and memorial services. We often roomed together on band trips, and I recall one of his favourites, which was in 2003 at the 9/11 Memorial in New York City, where our room overlooked ‘Ground Zero’, still being excavated. On that trip we played on stage at Carnegie Hall with PM Pat Hayes and the OPS Pipe Band. Bill Jr was so proud of that moment. He was the steady back corner of the band’s pipe corps for many years. His sense of humour and smile were legendary in our community, and he was a kind and gentle soul, who could play any tune on the pipes, and famously of course, AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck”, which wasn’t easy. Junior is at peace now, with no more struggles, and enjoying the new band with all those gone before (Pat, the 2 Jacks, Scott, JT, Archie, and many more legends… and with Gloria of course). Gone to young yes, but in glory now. My deepest condolences to Bill Sr, Julie, Kevin, and the family. God bless you all. Thinking and praying for you.
