Died July 25, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta. Mary Lou died of presumed COVID pneumonia after a long battle with dementia. Mary Lou was born August 3, 1941 in Winchester Springs, Ontario – the first child of Irwin and Amy Holmes. She was older sister to Clara, Brenda and Kenton. Mary Lou moved to Kingston to train at Kingston General Hospital as a nurse and went on to work in pediatrics at Montreal Children’s Hospital. Mary Lou raised her children Elizabeth Louise, Robert Mason and Mary Kathleen Greenaway in Amherstburg and Kingston, Ontario. She moved to Edmonton to be close to many of her grandchildren; she was “Gramma Lou” to Annie, Emily, Quin, Joshua, Theo, Zev and Lowell. Mary Lou was a loving and spirited friend, parent and grandparent. She will be dearly missed. A memorial will be planned in the future when travel and gathering are safer and more possible. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary Fund (https://kingstonhsc.ca/working-and-volunteering/kgh-auxiliary) and to Ontario Bird Conservation (https://www.beco-birds.org/donate/).

July 30, 2020 at 1:11 amI am so very sorry to hear about the loss of Mary Lou. I fondly remember her at your house in Amherstburg when I was visiting with my parents, our family trips to Hawaii when we were all kids, and seeing her many times with my dad when I was an adult. I especially remember my dad’s stories of her (and all of our parents) when they were young in Montreal. My heartfelt condolences to all of your family, especially to Liz, Rob and Kate.
