On Friday January 12, 2024, at the age of 94, Margaret Carson (nee Harrison) of Oxford Mills passed away peacefully with her daughter Elizabeth by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Peter Carson and loving mother of Elizabeth and her husband Bruce Robinson. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Sarah Robinson and Ann Lalonde (Ben) and by her great grandchildren Ruby Ann, Lillian and Evelyn. She was the dear sister of the late Emily Sabourin (Don) of Cornwall and the late Earl Harrison (Rhita) and the late Lloyd “Bus” Harrison all of Russell. She will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Louise Storie (Jerry) and her many nieces and nephews will also miss her dearly.
Margaret led a long and interesting life making countless friends along the way. Not many knew she worked in the government before getting a taste of farm wife life. Over the years she spent a lot of time and energy looking after the hobby farm animals and a large exotic bird collection that she and Peter acquired at Carson’s Love Nest. They were founders and Margaret was the secretary/treasurer of the Oxford on Rideau Bird Club for over 30 years. So many friends and fond memories were made gallivanting for hours and miles just to get to the next bird auction. Numerous evenings (and well into the early hours) were spent playing cards with bird club friends and family. She was owner and operator of “Gram’s taxi” running her granddaughters to practices, games, recitals, guiding events and dropping off friends, though many stayed as the welcome mat was always out at her place. She was “Gram” to all and enjoyed cooking and baking a feast for everyone to enjoy. Though her body became weary later in life, she still enjoyed telephone conversations, playing plenty of cards, and hosting large family gatherings. Her family and friends meant everything to her.
Visitation will be held at Byers Funeral Home, 2990 Church Street South Mountain (613-989-3836) on Wednesday January 17 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be at the same location on Thursday the 18th at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers are: Blaise Sabourin, David Harrison, Robert Carson, Steven Carson, James MacIntyre, and Carson Summers. Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to St Andrews United Church, Heckston. Online condolences may be made at www.byersfuneralhomeinc.ca
