Lula Agnes Hanes (Nee Dawley)

Peacefully, at Maxville Manor on November 13, 2024 in her 99th year.  Beloved wife of the late George Hanes, much loved mother to Robert (Susan), Beverley and Bradley (Patricia).  Cherished Grandmother to Kelly Johnston (Andrew), Shaun Meikle, Krista Hanes, Justin Hanes (Lindsay), Kelsey Murphy (Neil) and Aleah Castillo (Alex).  Proud great-grandmother of Olivia and Riley Johnston, Greyson and McKenna Murphy and Rylinn Castillo.  Predeceased by brothers Basil (late Ruby), Dwight (late Myrtle), Stirling (Marion) Raymond (Dorothy) and sister Wilma.

The daughter of Melvin and Sadie Dawley, Lula was a lifelong resident of Winchester, from her younger years on the family farm, her time as a Bell Canada switchboard operator to her married years with George.  A devoted mother and member of the Ontario Hydro “family”, she became a charter member of the Eastern Star and was always involved in her children’s activities.  In later years, after the children were grown, she delighted in her work at Geggie’s Hardware store where she loved to interact with customers and fellow employees alike.

Friends may attend a visitation at the Winchester United Church, 519 St. Lawrence Street on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11a.m. Interment Maple Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winchester United Church or the Winchester District Memorial Hospital.
