James (Jim) Helmer March 8, 1942 - February 24, 2024

With sadness, the family announces that Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 81 at Dundas Manor Long Term Care – Saturday February 24, 2024.
Beloved partner of Francine Nault for 43 years. Cherished Father of Tracey and Scott and Stepfather of Natalie and Julie Cousineau. Treasured Bompa of Kayne, Jayde, Kye, Kaileigh and pepère to Kassandra, and Great-Bompa of Athena, Kayden and Zea, He leaves his sisters Marlene (Rick Gaves) and Rita (late Mel Fowler). Predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth and Caroline (Kenny Russell) and his brothers William Jr. (Margaret Woods), Roger (Sharon Donaldson), Gerald (Monique Aubin). He was the son of the late Stanton and Margaret (Crump). He leaves many nieces/nephews/cousins and friends.
Jim was once the President of the Winchester Lions Club and served as a councillor in Winchester. He helped to start figure skating and in his younger years he golfed, played baseball and hockey and he also coached. He was a hunter and a fisherman and enjoyed his cottage and he was a great dancer. He always talked about his dog Jake that he missed so much.
He worked for Nestle, Canada Bread and EMR in Ottawa where he met Fran and it was Love at first site. At EMR he was in charge of the budget regarding oil shipped all over Canada and did some travelling. Later, he started Winchester Marble and bad times forced him to close down. Then he became self-employed as a bookkeeper and worked for many important companies like Malmberg and IBM in Ottawa and Montreal and also served many local distinguished clients. Jim would have been 82 on March 8th.
At Jim’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date at the grave site. The arrangement are entrusted to Byers Funeral Home in South Mountain and Jim’s ashes will be buried at Maple Ridge Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff at Dundas Manor Long Term Care. We have truly appreciated the great care and compassion they have shown Jim and family especially during the last days of his life. If any donations are considered please remember Dundas Manor Long Term Care under (WDMH) where Jim was well taken care of for two and a half years and loved by everyone.
