Ilene Brooks (Nee Purdy) September 14, 1949 - May 3, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ilene Brooks at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Sunday May 3, 2020. Ilene Brooks age 70 of Kemptville. Beloved wife of the late Jerry Brooks. Survived by her loving daughter Amanda and son-in-law Simon Drouin. A devoted new Grandma to baby Dylan Drouin. Dear sister of Shirley (Raymond) Moore, Carl Purdy and the late James Purdy. Fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Barbara (Ken) MacLeod. She was a special Aunt of Wayne Moore (Charlie), William (Mary) Moore, Jill and Mark Taylor. Cherished great-aunt of Cody and Abigail Moore. Ilene was a well known hairdresser in the Kemptville area for over 50 years and will be deeply missed by her family, clients, many people in the community and especially her new grandson. A private viewing and interment was held May 7, 2020. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Memory of Ilene to the Charity of Your Choice. Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836).     Ilene has been cutting my hair for almost all of those 50 years. I’m sad and I will miss her. Such a hard worker, feisty, no nonsense gal. I’ll miss our visits at the shop. My sincere condolences to you.

    Doug and I are so sorry for your loss Amanda. We have known and been clients of your Mom for most of her hair dressing career. Doug just called her a couple of weeks ago to see how she was doing. She was so excited about being a grandma. I’m glad she had a brief time with your son. Sympathy to you all.

    I was shocked and saddened to hear of Ilene’s passing. She was such a stoical lady who would never burden you with her worries but would always listen to yours as long as there was NO GOSSIP! She was so generous and kindhearted as well as a good business woman, proud of her long career with memorabilia to show for it. She loved her family dearly and Amanda and Simon, the gift of your son was a wonderful blessing for her final days. May God bring you comfort and consolation and rest assured that she will be sorely missed as a community member and a friend.

    Amanda, my sincerest condolences on your Mom’s passing. She was so kind and generous, and so patient. I was so grateful to her for her kind efforts with my Mom, she was always such a good friend to her, right to the end.
    Your mother was a wonderful person, and she will truly be missed.
