Gail Kathleen Byers Nee Hanna February 6, 1943 - September 12, 2015

GAIL KATHLEEN BYERS (nee Hanna)

February 6, 1943 — September 12, 2015

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Gail on Saturday, September 12th.

Gail passed away at the Winchester Hospital at the age of 72 years old after a two year battle with cancer. Gail was born in Cornwall, Ontario, to the late Kenneth and Della Hanna. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edsel Byers, and her four children, Laurie (Frank Scheepers), Randy Byers (Lisa St. Pierre), AJ Byers, and Dan (Crystal) Byers.

Grandma Gail will be greatly missed by her twelve grandchildren, Cassidy, Madison, Abbie, Dylan, Katie, Erica, Michael, Elliot, Jillian, Kurtis, Lauren and Charlotte. They all love her so very much. Dear sister of Dawn (late Gerry) Loveless, and Audrey (late Charles) Graziano. Predeceased by her brothers Fraser (Doris) Hanna, twin Garry (Kaye) Hanna, and Daryl (Doris) Hanna. She was a loving Aunt and cousin to many. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, and the extended Byers family.

Gail was very proud of her children and grandchildren; she had pictures of them everywhere in her home. She loved nothing more than to cook and bake for her family when they came to visit.

Her cat, Bailey, was a constant companion who usually snuggled up beside Gail after her chemotherapy treatments.

The family would like to sincerely thank the 2nd floor staff at the WDMH for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Hamilton, and Dr. Naciuk, and the cancer team at the Ottawa General Hospital.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Winchester United Church, 519 St. Lawrence St, on Wednesday, September 16th at 1:30pm.

Dear Laurie and family….I am soooo sorry to read about this sad news. Laur, when I think of your mom, I can’t help but recall during High School all of the “tours of Winchester” we did together–with your mom at the wheel. Lots of laughs! I know you hold her deeply in your heart. Sending big hugs and keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
