Mrs. Mellon was my high school geography teacher. She instilled in me not just a love for physical and human geography, and an understanding of our relationship to our environment, but also, through field outings, a deep respect for my rural roots and an interest in my local community. I am very appreciative of her teaching, and send my sympathies and best wishes to her family.

My sincerest sympathy to the family. I had the honour of both teaching with Freda and then later hearing the wonderful tales she shared with my parents as she acted as a tour guide on so many holidays. Such warmth, friendliness, and vast knowledge of our world. A truly great lady.

So sorry to hear of the passing of this remarkable woman. Freda was my Sunday School teacher at Hulbert United Church in the 70’s. Her and Howard were our neighbors on the Hulbert Rd until they moved to Cardinal. I used to visit with this amazing couple and help them however I could. She will definitely be missed. RIP Freda. I am sorry to miss Freda’s (more correctly for me Mrs. Mellon) funeral but I am in Whistler visiting my daughter. I credit Freda for my life long live of history and historical places. I remember taking the train to Toronto with Freda when I was about 15 and she gave me a history and geography commentary the whole way. She was on her way to a teachers conference.
Other than Ann Fowler I think she might have been the last of the MDHS teachers but Richard would be the authority on that.

She was a strong lady who will be remembered by many.
