I was very sorry to hear about your father’s passing.
Uncle Doug certainly leaves behind an impressive legacy of entrepreneurial spirit and success but I will always fondly remember him for his practical, often humourous, ideas about the way things should be done and as someone who was always very kind my family. May he rest in peace.

    To the Durant Family

I have known Doug for all of my life–he was a good man always willing to help
When I approached him as the fundraiser for the Spencerville Bluegrass Festival ,
as a sponsor , there was no hesitation–we did a lot of catching up during the phone calls as well.
Growing up in Mountain, I watched him become quite the entrepeneur over the years–he never forgot his community.
He will be remembered by many
R.I.P. now Doug, you have earned it.

So sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. My strength and love to all his family. I was lucky enough to work at Sandy Mountain for many years. We would definitely get a giggle every year as he tried to test our customer service. Best one was him walking out of the store without paying for ice cream and Mavreen chasing him down not knowing who he was.
May we all find comfort and peace in the memories we hold so close to our hearts.

    Dear Durant family,

I just saw the sad news that Doug recently passed away. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I will always remember Doug as a great person and a big part of my life growing up in South Mountain. Doug was actually my first boss – I was just a teenager when he hired me to wash golf carts and cut grass at Nationview golf course and it was a great experience working with him and the Durant family. I worked there for several years and I loved it so much that I would work all day cutting grass, go home for a quick bite of supper, and then head straight back to the golf course to play golf in Men’s Night until the sun went down. I knew Doug well – both as a boss and as a golfing friend – and I will miss him. He taught me a lot about working hard, always having a good attitude, and always having fun. To Doug, may you Rest In Peace. And to the entire Durant family, my best wishes now and always. Adam
