Dirk Adrianus Don August 7, 1928 - June 10, 2020

Peacefully at home on Wednesday June 10, 2020. Dirk Don age 91 of Winchester. Beloved husband of the late Petronella (Nelly) Bakker. Loving dad of Bill (Clare), late Gertrude (Dennis) Baker, Joan, Eric (Marni), Derrick (Emily) and David (Anna). Cherished Opa to 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

February 23, 1954 Dirk married Nelly. They hopped on a ship from Holland and moved to Canada to start their new family. Dirk worked on a few different farms before starting his own business doing what he loved as a florist and landscaper. He kept himself busy during winter months either working with a carpenter and even driving transport truck and always kept busy. When his back gave out in the late 60s he had to give up the physical labour and moved the family to Winchester in search of different business opportunities, where they resided the rest of their lives other than spending many winters in Florida.

My remeberance goes back to 1964 when I visited Nel and Dick with my grandfahter Opa Don. With Dick I had many laughs I called him uncle but he would not hear that He was 34 years old and I was 24. He used to tease me with a lot of things. May he rest in peace.

    Dear family,

Our condolences with uncle Dick and wishing you lots of strength in this difficult period which is so short after the death of Trudy. We have very often thought about you all and fancied that we could also have lived in Canada as our deceased father Joop Don married with Bep Don fancied to join emigrating with Dick and Nel in the fifties. This did not occur but we saw our family once in a number of years and our parents have always been extremely grateful they once had the opportunity to have their 1st and only overseas holiday to meet you all in Canada and do a lot of sightseeing like visiting Niagara falls . Even now our mother Bep Don (88 years old) is regularly expressing her serious gratitude for this wonderful experience. I know uncle Dick and Joop Don were pretty close and in fact is is very strange to see a picture of Dick which has such a strong resemblance with Joop Don while only the hair style was different.
Please take good care and stay strong!
