Andrew Thomas Allison May 7, 1941 - May 22, 2022

Date of Funeral

June 11, 2022

The unofficial but widely acknowledged mayor of Inkerman, Tom Allison, died at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on May 22, 2022. The May long weekend always marked his family’s official start of summer with the camper bound for Lake Opinicon so it was a fitting weekend for him to leave us. While he carried the tragedies of a car accident in his twenties and the deaths of his beloved daughter Andrea and dear nephew Stephen in 2002 in his heart, his compassion for others was constant. He was well known for his generosity – from helping neighbours to driving Hydro crews during the ice storm. He took great pride in making his community a better place. Tommy is survived by Erma, his devoted wife of 59 years, his son Barry (Lucie), his daughter Cathy (Alistair) and his grandchildren Alanna, Cara, Nicole, Kerstin, Alec, Riley, Zoe and Cooper and his son in law Bourk Boyd (Greta). He will be missed by his loving sisters Erma (Dan), Helen (Bob) and Joan (Richard). Brother-in-law of Judy Prunner and Doug Whitteker (Betty). Tommy will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews near and far. His family would like to thank the Palliative Care team at the Queensway Carleton for providing Tommy with outstanding care in his final days. A celebration of his life will take place at Inkerman United Church on June 11th at 11:15 am. For those wishing to celebrate Tommy’s memory, donations to the Inkerman United Church or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836). Online condolences may be made at www.byersfuneralhomeinc.ca

Hi Erma. So sorry to hear of Tommy’s passing. I as a new Public Health Nurse in 1970, dropped into your friendly store in Inkerman, to find directions to the families I was visiting for new babies, etc., in the area. It was a great help in those days and I certainly appreciated it. We also had some great conversations about the Famous Inkerman Rockets, which my parents who lived in Ottawa told me about them, once they heard me say my area included Inkerman.

We are so saddened to hear of Toms passing. Tom was one of the first people to welcome us into the community that is Inkerman when we moved here in 2017. He was always so kind, happy and always had a wonderful story to tell. Our deepest condolences to all of Toms family, friends and the community, and especially to his wife, Erma who was so lovely to chat with.
