Mr. Conn was my grade 6 teacher in the portable at Oxford, and it will always be a fond memory. Group video projects, creating our own spring play, and his lessons were always engaging. We always knew that whatever event Mr. Conn was in charge of for the last day of school was going to be the best. Water balloons or water slide down the hill are the ones I remember. Thinking of Ms. Stringer and family during this time.

Wendy and the Conn family: please accept my sincerest condolences and deepest sympathies. I was a member of Chal’s very large hockey family. Most memorable were the 2 ‘hockey’ trips the Oxford Millers took to Europe. Chal was the definition of sportmanship and professionalism. Incredible sense of humour. You will be missed Chal!

I just received the obituary on your brother-in-laws passing through his Shriner affiliation and I do extend my condolences to your family. I have not seen the name of Dan Stringer in a long time but do remember our times together when you lived in Renfrew and before we each went our separate ways. There are still a number of memories which stay with me.

      Hello Jack
Thank you for your message of condolence, We are very saddened with Chal’s passing. It has been a tough time for Wendy as she spent every waking moment during the last 6 weeks with Chal at the Ottawa Heart Institute.
It has been 60 years since I left home for university and only returned to visit while my parents were still alive. I live in Goderich where I practiced Pharmacy up until retirement. Yes, lots of good memories of those Renfrew days.

I first met Chalm when I was invited to play with the old-timers’ hockey in Kemptville. Chalm had a friendly welcome for me and I knew he liked me because he kept taking the puck away from me. I presumed it was so I would not trip over it and hurt myself. He was a great team player, fun, witty and never missed a chance to sell tickets for the Shriners events or for all other community charities. My condolences to Wendy and all the extended family he loved and to the community he regarded so highly. He will be sorely missed and leaves a void in his family, friends and community. A gentleman he will not be forgotten. It was my honour to call him my friend.
