Leonard William McLaren December 17, 1943 - February 20, 2023

Date of Funeral

February 25, 2023

Leonard William McLaren, 79, of Longfields Manor Barrhaven Ontario, peacefully passed away on Monday February 20, 2023 after a lengthy and fierce battle with kidney disease and dementia.

Born December 17, 1943 to Hazel (Simzer) and Wilfred McLaren at Ottawa Grace Hospital. He was raised in Mountain Ontario. It was in Mountain where he developed his love of baseball and more recently he would speak of these great adventures and his homeruns.

Leonard worked as a mason throughout his life and there are many homes and landmarks standing as a tribute to his legacy. Leonard married his wife Andrea on October 2nd, 1964 and went on to have three daughters. Leonard was a strong and supportive father and grandfather. He encouraged his daughters and granddaughter to succeed and his greatest joy was to speak to others of their achievements.

Prior to his illness, he dedicated many years supporting both the Spencerville and Cardinal Lion’s Clubs, where you could find him enjoying live country music and drinking his famous scotch and milk. In his free time he loved spending time with his friends doing what he loved; fishing and hunting.

Loving Dad of Diane (Wayne) McLaren and Angela (Isaac) Gannon. Cherished Grandpa of Maggie Martin. Beloved companion of Eva Francoeur. Brother of Ken (Elaine) McLaren. Leonard also leaves behind his sister in laws Mary, Alice, Carmel and Stella and many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by Andrea McLaren. Predeceased by his daughter Kimberly Ann McLaren and his parents Hazel (Simzer) and Wilfred McLaren.

Leonard will rest at the Byers Funeral Home, 2990 Church Street, South Mountain (613-989-3836) on Saturday February 25th, 2023 from 9 to 11am for viewing until time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11:00am. Spring Interment South Gower Cemetery.

Please join the family at Sandy Row Golf Club, 10668 Sandy Row Road, South Mountain, for a lunch following the Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, Leonard requested donations be made to the Royal Ottawa Foundation for Mental Health, in support of the care they provided his granddaughter Maggie Martin. Online condolences can be made at www.byersfuneralhome inc.com

Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at the Nephrology Clinic at the Ottawa Hospital and to the Staff at Longfields Manor.
