It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear Husband, Father & Grandpa, Gerald Loughlin of Hallville, in his 64th year; it was a hard fought battle with cancer that was lost on April 20, 2020. Lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 42 years Margaret (Nelson), and his children Stephanie (Casey) Redmond of Kemptville and Brett (Jennifer) Loughlin of Hallville. Forever remembered by his grandchildren Owen, Cassidy, Tanner and Tyson. Much loved Brother of Gary Loughlin, Linda (Kerry) Carnegie of Kemptville and Connie (Peter) Brogan of Hallville. He will be fondly remembered by his many nephews, nieces, and several cousins.Gerald was born at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital to the late Robert & Veronica (Naphan) Loughlin. He was raised on the family farm to be respectful, kind, compassionate, and to show empathy to those less fortunate. Gerald was proud of his many accomplishments and where he came from. It was with pride he would tell you that he put Hallville on the map! He provided many a job or service needed, and understood the value of a good employee. He was always there to help day or night, just a phone call away; towing many from ditches and snowbanks no matter the weather in a flannel plaid snap shirt and a cell phone clipped to his belt. If he wasn’t waving to you from the tow truck he could be found in the field operating the combine, or at an auction looking for his next good deal.Gerald was a simple man with no need for fanfare. The family have decided to send him off to haul away all his purchases in heaven, by way of a good bye tribute parade on Sunday April 26, 2020 at 10am. Please tune your radio stations into Country 101.1 to listen to the oldies, and follow the firetrucks as they leave Hallville heading North to Loughlin Ridge Road to pass by the Family Farm. To keep everyone safe due to COVID19 the family requests that you remain in your vehicles and continue with the flow of traffic not stopping. Vintage cars, trucks, tractors and combines encouraged. The Family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital and Bayshore Healthcare nurses for the excellent care and compassion provided to Gerald over the past few months. A special mention also goes to Dr. Bart Steele, his main man in healthcare for so many years, and to his oncologist Dr. Bosse, a fellow farmer. In lieu of flowers (Gerald never really cared much for them) the family is asking you please consider a donation in his memory to Winchester District Memorial Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836) Online condolences may be made at www.byersfuneralhomeinc.ca

Gerald’s obituary says it well, all around great guy and always seemed to know what to do for anyone who needed help. Too bad we could not return the favour. God must have a job for him up there, can’t imagine what it would be, to take him from you all, just doesn’t seem fair. He will be missed by many from near and far. Thinking of you all. Love Vicki

April 22, 2020 at 8:53 amOur deepest condolences to The Loughlin family. We just found out about Gerald passing away and are shocked and sadden deeply. Gerald was a honest and kind human being, one of the best bosses anyone could of had, as my husband Richard drove for him for so many years ago, delivering feed from the feed store at Inkerman to local farms and over into New York State. Way too young for such a nice person to leave this world , his battle with cancer is over (we didn’t know about), you are at peace in Heaven now. Hallville and surrounding area will never be the same now and all that knew you, will miss you. You were so much like your dad, Bob, just good people,… go and meet back up with your dad Gerald, I’m sure you have lots to catch up on. Rest in peace.

April 26, 2020 at 8:31 pmIt was with great sadness that I learned today of Gerald’s recent passing – my sincere condolences to Brett and the whole Loughlin family. I will miss but always treasure our discussions we had on tractors and/or farming either at the shop (where I may have bought one or two), at a farm show, or in my laneway … sometimes colorful but always insightful. Heaven has received a true character but more importantly a good man.
jamie sheldrick says
April 26, 2020 at 9:57 pmGerald gave me one of my very first jobs when i was a young teenager. He and Bob had me paint his barn and
doors on his massive shed, i was way high on the ladder painting near the top when i fell off; i landed on my feet but the gallon can hit the ground flat on its bottom and the paint flew straight up like a geyser and landed all over me. I thought for sure Gerald was going to give me hell but he just stood there and laughed his guts out and i was laughing with him.
That’s how i remember Gerald. I will miss him terribly he was a good man
My condolences to Margaret and family.

April 27, 2020 at 10:29 amMargaret, Brett, Stephanie and Families…..
My memories of Gerald come mostly from my childhood. I remember being at the farm with My Dad as a young kid and also with Pat Thibert who I was a pest to in my youth. Gerald seemed to be a larger than life individual. Although I didn’t know him well as an adult, he always still carried that persona to me. A simple nod and a “gidday how are ya”, maybe a quick chat and away he went to carry on with whatever he was doing. What a beautiful tribute to Gerald yesterday. Evidence of how many people cared for and respected Gerald and his family. As I turned onto Loughlin Ridge from Hallville I was in awe of what I was seeing. It was like nothing I have ever seen before, and I was proud to be part of it. Your beautiful property and equipment spread uniquely throughout was breathtaking. What a great tribute to a great man. The sign at the end of the road by boundary said it all… “The Ridge Will Never Be The Same”
I send my condolences to you all, and hope that the memories you have will help you remember a great life lived. Take Care.
