Duane was always dedicated to his family, profession and the community and led by example.
Marlene has such fond memories of time spent together with Duane and Charlotte, especially at the Brigadoon Restaurant with Mike and Isabel, and the lively conversations that ensued.
Steve, Lynn and I enjoyed Dad sharing his adventures during the trip to Newfoundland and Labrador with Duane and Mike. Their special friendship was always at the forefront and highlighted.
May your celebration bring a comfort and understanding of his impact on our community. His contributions are endless.

February 25, 2019 at 2:05 pmMy condolences to Dr. Duane’s family. He was a truly great man.
I first met Dr. Justus as a teen when he performed surgery on me several times in the 60’s. He was skillful and had a wonderful bedside manner. As a shy teen, he was able to tease and make you laugh to ease any situation. He was also very respectful in giving you all the information about your care to help you understand and put your worries at ease.
In 1970 I worked as a nurse on 1st Floor Surgery at WDMH. I was privileged to see first hand, Dr. Duane’s skill and compassion at work, in the hospital that he gave so much of his life.
Dr. Duane’s dad, Dr. Howard, was also still performing surgery in those days. Again, so privileged to have worked along side both of these great men. I’ll never forget them.

February 25, 2019 at 3:23 pmOur sincere sympathy for the Justus family. What a great guy and friend Dr. Duane was. I personally will cherish the memory the time he accompanied our son,s hockey club to Russia in earlier years, very reassuring knowing we had one of the best doctor-surgeons with us. Most evenings after things quieted down somehow a little bit of Scotch would appear and we would have a toast to the day and a story or two (mainly of his family). We will remember him-cheers.

February 25, 2019 at 8:58 pmDear Megan, Jim, Gabrielle and Emily,
My sympathy to you and your extended family as you mourn the loss of one who was so dear to you. It has been a long time since you were students here in Arnprior, Gabrielle and Emily, and a long time since I would often see you at Bonnie Jane’s Scones, Megan. Memories of you all, however, are vivid in my mind and my heart goes out to you at this time of loss in your family. May many wonderful memories bring you comfort throughout the days of adjustment ahead and may those memories cause you to have thankful hearts as you remember with love your dad/grandfather!
Thinking fondly of you all with sincere sympathy,
Valerie Wereley

February 26, 2019 at 1:48 amMy condolences to the family. Dr. Duane had a special role in my life, starting from the time he had an office right across the street from us on Highway 31. His care extended well beyond the medical, and it was always good to know, wherever I was, that I had an ally back in Winchester. I hope you take comfort in the knowledge that he touched thousands of lives in such a positive and powerful way.

Our deepest sympathy in your loss. We have such fond memories of the great times: each Saturday watching “Gunsmoke”; family get-togethers; racing (but never winning) in his GP14; cruising the Thousand Islands and Lake Ontario in the “Charlotte Anne”; the Seigniory Club weekends; and of course his delivering Bruce.
We were proud, and grateful to have known such a great and kind person. Blessings to each of you

February 26, 2019 at 5:06 pmOur condolences to all of you on the loss of such a kind and talented physician and leader. He was a mentor for me when I came to WDMH in 1975. I will be forever grateful to him and his father for their advice and expertise at the start of my career.

February 27, 2019 at 9:10 amCharlotte and family: Lois and I were so sorry to hear of Duane’s passing. When I arrived here in 1960 most of the physicians in the area were in awe of the Justus TEAM. Howard and Duane were both talented and exemplary physicians and surgeons and the goal of many of the younger docs was to do as well as these 2 giants of local medicine. Both were great surgeons, although Howard could be crusty at times.I last saw Duane at Les Cruickshank’s funeral and noticed that he walked with much difficulty. He was not pleased with his body’s deterioration. Please accept Lois’ and my sincerest condolences of this great contributor to our local community. Duane will be greatly missed by all who knew him but will be remembered as part of the Justus wing at WDMH. Perhaps it’s some comfort to know that he truly made a difference in our world. Thank you, Duane.

February 27, 2019 at 2:27 pmOur sincere condolences to the Justus family. I had the honour and privilege to work with Duane during my days as the Chair of the WDMH Foundation and the Renewing the Vision Campaign. A great story teller, a great person, and a great contributor to WDMH and the community. My wife Andrea always spoke highly of Duane when he’d come into the bank and shared his stories with her. She was also lucky to have worked with him during her time on the WDMH Board of Directors. We are lucky to have several of his amazing photos hanging on our walls and we will always remember him when we look at them. A truly great person who we always loved to talk to. You will be missed……Terry & Andrea MacLellan

February 28, 2019 at 10:43 amCharlotte and family,
Our deepest condolences.
Duane was a great colleague of our father and family friend, especially during our father’s illness. I have fond memories of crewing on his sailboat. We didn’t win many races but he inspired my love of sailing. We reminisced about those times during a recent visit.
Duane was a fine man.

Our sincere sympathy in the loss of your Father. Duane was such a wonderful Doctor and neighbour to our family. He loved telling stories about my Mom and Dad who grew up with him. When Rick and I were getting married they asked him to give the toast to the bride and he gave a very memorable one. He certainly is leaving this world a better place because he was in it.

March 2, 2019 at 12:51 pmPlease accept our sincerest condolences.
We were most appreciative of the friendship between our families that lasted over the years we lived in Winchester. Duane was so kind to attend and say a few words at the tree planting ceremony for our Dad in 2009.

March 2, 2019 at 8:49 pmWe would like to extend our sincere condolences to Dr Justus’s family and friends.
Duane was an outstanding surgeon, and a generous and kind human being.
Everyone in our office enjoyed speaking with him – he was a true gentleman- and looked forward to seeing the wonderful photographs he usually brought along to share with us, that he had taken during recent holidays.
I retired last year and was traveling out of the country when Duane passed away, however, my (former) staff contacted me – knowing how much I liked and admired him – to give me the sad news.
Our community has lost a great man. It was a privilege knowing Dr Duane Justus.
