Dear Shirley – I knew Roy was having some health problems when we attended the dinner at the United church but he was strong and vigorous as usual. He will leave a great void in the community – always organizing major events to the betterment of one and all. I will always remember our sessions at your home when Bev Shea would come through the door and with his booming voice feel right at home with you all. I was so happy to be asked to be with you all for the fundraising concert/dinner that Roy arranged only a few months ago. The huge Bev Shea birthday celebration at the arena in Winchester, I’m sure, was all Roy’s doing and so many throughout the Ottawa Valley are grateful for that. Our condolences to you and the family. Hope to see you at the service on Friday.

I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to Roy Fawcett, and I’m not the only one.

If he hadn’t built that “popemobile” and had concerts on the corner of Main & St. Lawrence Streets every weekend, I would likely never have developed the love of music that I have.

And if he hadn’t hauled all those pianos and organs to the community center for the home show every year, my family might never have bought one, and I would never have discovered my destiny.

Roy was a great man. Period. Full stop.

My personal condolences and sympathy to Shirley (I miss you!) and the whole extended family.

As a funny side note, I never knew before today — in conversations with my father — that Julie was Roy’s daughter. I was pretty dense when I was a kid. (I owe THAT lady a debt of gratitude as well!)
