Donald Rodney McLaughlin December 31, 1942 - May 29, 2015

Donald (Don) McLaughlin of Winchester, formerly of Haley Station, Montreal and Ottawa passed away peacefully at Winchester Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 29, 2015 following a valiant struggle with cancer.

He was born in Forester’s Falls to the late Harold Gordon McLaughlin (1908-1997) and the late Hazel Muriel Church (1914 – 2001).

On July 13, 1971 he married Patricia Madeline Kerr in Ottawa. They had two sons, Ian Alexander of Ottawa and Michael Anthony (Marie-Josée) of Orleans and three grandchildren, Anne-Elizabeth, Charles and Aurora.

He was the brother of the late John “Gary” (1940-1996) of Kemptville, Neil Broyden (MaryAnn) of Kanata, and David Merwyn ( Gloria) of Pickering.

He was the uncle of Gary and his late wife Darlene’s children Scott McLaughlin (Antonia), Micheal and Adriana; Erin (Gilles Paquette); Tim and the late Brendon (1968-1994) and of his second wife Diane Cloutier’s daughter Amy-Lynne; and of Neil’s children Neil “Sheldon” John McLaughlin (Annabel) and (Shona Rae Thomas (Craig) and David’s children Kerri Anne (Trevor Callaghan) and Joanna Lynn. He also has three great nephews and three great nieces.

Don worked in the mine in Haley Station and as a banker in several towns and cities before attending Carleton University. He then joined the Canada Revenue Agency from where he retired in 1998 as a senior computer analyst.

Genealogy became one of Don’s passions. In addition to tracing his own families, he traced the 19th century families of Ross Township, publishing a book entitled “You Couldn’t Talk About Anybody.”
