With deep love and sorrow, we share that Terrence Jeffery Harper passed away on February 9, at the age of 78. In his final moments, he was not alone—his beloved son Todd and his dear friend Val were by his side, holding him with love.
Terry was a man of quiet strength, kindness, and integrity. He spent more than 30 years serving as an Ottawa Police Officer, a role he took to heart, always believing in doing what was right. He retired early due to heart disease, a battle he faced with courage and grace.
Family meant everything to Terry. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Fournier (Robert), and their daughters, Aimee and Andree. His greatest joy, however, was his son Todd, daughter-in-law Larissa, and precious granddaughter Amelia—who brought light, laughter, and purpose to his life every single day.
Terry was a gentle, thoughtful soul who found joy in the simple things. He loved books, history, good food, and quiet moments of reflection. Winchester became his home and his community, a place where he felt grounded and deeply connected. His warmth, curiosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
We are eternally grateful to the Medical team at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, particularly Dr.Fink and Carolyn and Vishnu, for the exceptional end-of-life care and compassion that Terry and family received.
Though our hearts ache, we are thankful that Terry is now at peace and no longer in pain.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date and a purple magnolia tree will be planted in his honour, this spring.
Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836)

February 12, 2026 at 3:46 amI had the pleasure to work with and get to know Terry a bit in the late 1980’s on C Platoon Ottawa Police.
I was a rookie and Terry was one of the veterans on the Platoon. I remember him as a kind and helpful person. Even after I retired I would bump into Terry in Kemptville occasionally and we would have a good chat. I offer my condolences to Val, Todd and the entire family. Rest in peace brother.
