October 17, 2025 at 2:09 pmOur sincere condolences to Lisa and everyone closest to Kim in both their families.
Kim was the person whose vision started the of our South Grenville Bluegrass Festival in Spencerville, ON and Chairperson of our dedicated Festival Committee for all 10 of its editions. Under his leadership it grew from a promising little event trying to establish itself and uncertain if it could pay its bills to what many called the best bluegrass festival in Ontario in 2025. Throughout those 10 years Kim (and Lisa) were close bluegrass colleagues in the Committee and fellow Board members for the Ottawa Valley Bluegrass Music Association. More importantly they became good friends.
I find myself replaying segments our many conversations over and over in my mind. For not infrequently when Lisa was away on one of her many business trips, either Kim or I would call the other about one or two small details of a festival and after settling those we’d end up talking for an hour about how to keep making the event bigger and better and everything else under the sun. The last such conversation occurred late one night, after everyone else had gone to bed, outside Kim and Lisa’s trailer at the 2025 festival back in August. Over another rum and coke, for at least an hour, we savored the success of the 2025 Festival, the biggest and best yet by far, talked about the many ways we could make it better and ended with a hug and a promise to each other we’d keep it going.
We’ll do our best, buddy. And your spirit will be there at every meeting and in everything we do. See ya down the road, Kim. Keep on pickin’.

October 17, 2025 at 4:08 pmMy sincerest condolences to Lisa and extended family members on Kim’s sudden departure from this world. I know how much he loved music, particularly bluegrass music and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not already putting a bluegrass band together for his next concert. He was a good man and will be deeply missed.

November 27, 2025 at 3:25 pmKim and Lisa brought us into Bluegrass. Best hosts for sure. Many festivals, gas lit late jams and that last beverage before bed: usually early morning. The Heckston Hall jams and the house party jams. Kim’s dream of running a Bluegrass Festival was achieved and now he is waiting and playing up high.
Rest in Peace good friend.
